Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Boy gets probation in duck killing

Sentence includes community service

One of four teenagers accused of luring ducks and geese into a roadway then mowing them down with a car pleaded guilty to animal cruelty Tuesday and was sentenced to probation and community service.

The 17-year-old boy admitted to a Maricopa County Juvenile Court judge that he was a passenger in the car used to run down the ducks and geese on Lakeside Boulevard near Suki Court in Ahwatukee. The Republic is not identifying him because he is a juvenile.

The teen said that he and three other Mountain Pointe High School classmates, two of whom are 17 and one 16, used tortilla chips to entice the birds on March 5.

Seven mallard ducks and two geese died at the scene. Another mallard was euthanized due to the severity of its injuries. Several more injured birds probably retreated to the lake and drowned, Arizona Humane Society officials said.

The massacre caused an uproar in the community, and Silent Witness and the Humane Society offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The teen was ordered to complete 50 hours of community service by Sept. 1 and participate in the Stardust Equestrian Therapy Program sponsored by the Humane Society. Kim Noetzel, a Humane Society representative, said the case sent a message to the public.

"Hopefully, a lot of young people are paying attention that animal cruelty is a crime and there can be serious consequences," Noetzel said.

It is strange to read this becuase just this morning hubby and I were talking about all the birds, etc and were saying about what should be done to this devils that do things like catch a pelican and slit it's pouch where it can not swallow the fish it scoops up, the the ones that got the herons and sawed off their top bill so they couldn't swallow (this was Calif. I think). Hubby had a good idea--sew up their backside and then them keep feeding them and feeding them and then give them x-lax. Would be a reverse sentence to what they did to these birds.

I think it's stupid to try to protect these"CHILDREN"! look @ their ages. 50 hrs of community service is nothing! I think that seeing a Psyche is more correct & make them pay for it!how about some restitution! 3-17 yr olds and 1-16 yr old (sounds like a suspension of some driver's lic. would be more in line.) Bet you'll find out in the near future that they haven't learned anything. They used the vehicle as a saddistic weapon. this was no accident. There was premeditation & malace aforethought. They were not knocking over trash cans. Unless something "TOTALLY LIFE CHANGING" happens to these individuals, I know where they're headed!

These things are so awful to hear, I can't imagine what could go through their minds to do such horrible things, but I'm with you on the solution Sandra lol

Yes, I do too Sandra! But Sensibly speaking, that JUSTICE system's not going along with that(and soon what we just said will probably be considered a "HATE CRIME" & WE all would get HARD TIME over it! I thought for idiots who do things like this & run puppy mills or "dump Pups along the road, should have a more fitting punishment. Like some SERIOUS AMOUNT OF TIME & service to going through the RESCUE PROCEEDURES and serving the real VICTIMS! THE ANIMALS! I mean really get into the hardships that Rescuers have to cleaning up, handfeeding, countless hours trying to raise funds & getting these lil ones homes etc. Not just some community service time where they just sit on their butts or don't do anything either!
