Thank you Anna and Barbi for the thoughts and prayers.
Well, because of the interview I had the morning off. Around 10:30 I took her to the 'unofficial' MSU dog park and she ran and played with a Aussie Shepherd and a few Labs. Got home about 12:30 and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, until Kia curled up on the couch. Her left leg spasmed uncontrollably. I rubbed it, thinking it just a muscle spasm, but then both legs started to spasm. She stared at her legs like she had no clue what was going on. I had her get off the couch and walk around and she was fine. No limping, whimpering, or anything. She retreated to her crate and as soon as she laid down, her front legs started to spasm again. I called up the vets office (it was 12:45 by now) and the tech said the vet was out until 3 p.m. I was to keep an eye on her and if her symptoms progressed worse, then to take her to MSU. Kia never vomited, never got glassy eyed, or cried out. She would just lay there and stare at me or her legs. Over the course of about 1 hour and 20 minutes, her front legs stopped spasming, her body gave a quick spasm, and then her back legs starting going. She'd kick the side of the crate and never make a sound. It was just eerie. She didn't want to leave her crate either. Poor thing kept trying to fall asleep and her spasm would wake her up. Got her to the vet at 3 and her vital signs are normal and good. She was all happy and bouncy at the vet. The vet tech said that the oncoming of bad weather makes her dogs anxious and if Kia ever acted odd before a storm. (Her dogs were in the back and going crazy....blue skies, but a chance of storms) Said I hadn't noticed before. It's possible she had a mild seizure, but as of right now, she's a-okay. Sleepy, but in good spirits. There are so many possibilities.... there were bees around the dog park, she may of been stung and had a reaction. But it is marked that she had a mild seizure today and I'll need to keep an eye on her. I hope she's not developing Epilepsy. ~Kimmy, Kia, Zam, & Logan |

I pray she's not developing epilepsy either. Has she had this happen before? From your description, it doesn't sound like an anxiety attack due to a storm, but if the vet seems to think it's a possibility, that's something to monitor. I know Lady goes bezerk when we have an electrical storm, but she doesn't get spasms. That does sound like a seizure.
Good luck sweetie - we know she's in excellent hands. Please give her a hug and kiss for me. |

quote: Kia had a massive seizure 9 months ago right after getting the PH6 injection. It's possible this could be an after effect...but no way to prove it. She's doing okay now. A little less perky, but no seizures. ~Kimmy, Kia, Zam, & Logan |

How old is Kia? did she have seisures before the PH6/ Could she have had one inbetween & you not know?

If I remember right, Kimmy got Kia when she was 3 and she will be 6 this summer. I believe her seizures after the PH6 injection were the frist Kimmyknew about, but it is hard to say what may have happened in her first 3 years.

How I hate ProHeart6. It has taken so many great dogs away from peole who loved them, and caused so many dogs to become sick and their owners are forever fearful of another attack, something else cropping up, etc. It has made life so miserable for so many. I know many who are now scared to give their recovered dog ANYTHING, and others that have gotten a new baby and the memory of the death of their last baby makes them scared to give puppy shots, use flea stuff, etc. I know, I am one of the ones who is terrifed to use anything on my 3 babies.

Thanks all for the thoughts and hugs.
Amy is right, I got Kia when she was 3 years old. It's possible that she could of had a seizure before PH6, but I don't think so. She's always been energenic and healthy acting before getting the PH6 shot. Plus she had the seizure mear minutes after getting the injection. It's not a coincidence to me. I mean, if she had that massive of a seizure before getting PH6 and I wasn't home, I'm sure I would of come home to a dead dog. ~Kimmy, Kia, Zam, & Logan |
