Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

I am just curious if what Bear went through is what another vet would suggest or think was too much.

Bear just got snipped and while under anesthesia, the vet pulled all eleven (!!!!) baby teeth that were causing his adult teeth to not grow in correctly. He seems alright, not great, but just alright, today.

My question is.. this seems like an awful lot to pull in ONE day, especially with the post-pain from surgery. What do you think? I hate to second guess my vet. Im sure he knows what my little guy can handle, but I am aalllllways skeptical, especially bc this vet is new.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Chihuahua Kisses,

Candace, CFP will have (in the near future) a "Vet-for-advice" type of section. We're also looking into a "Ask-the-trainer" section as well. Right now -- off the bat -- I don't have an answer for your question. My personal opinion is that maybe 11 teeth in one day is too much (ouch!!), but then again, I'm not a veterinarian so I do not know if that was appropriate or not. My suggestion: take the x-rays to another vet and get a second opinion as to what they would have done and how they would have handled it.

How is Bear feeling? I would think it would take more than 1 or 2 days for him to get over that pain, but then again, young pups bounce back from everything very rapidly.

Hi Candace. Myself, I think it was way too many to pull at on time. That meant more anesthesia, more pain, more risk of infection, and more time being under. For a dog of Bear's size, I think it was quite excessive. Of course I am not a vet, but.......

Hello.. thanks for your thoughts. I thought it was excessive as well so I called the vet this morning to ask about the surgery. The nurse said that the teeth were ready to come out and because of that, they were not going to cause too much pain for Bear to handle, even with the other surgery. I told her he was not feeling well and she said it would take a day or two more for him to bounce back to his old self.

Today, he did much better. I came into work late again just to stay with him a little longer in the morning. He is eating up a storm and has gone "both". That was really making me most worried.. it took him almost a full 24hrs to urinate again. But, he has gone, and I caught him munching on Taylor's crunchy food this morning. (Which I quickly stopped and gave him more soft puppy food.. Im a little worried his teeth are still sore).

Anyhow, he looks much better today. Bright eyed and bushy tailed. He whimpers a LOT still, and sometimes his shreek of pain just makes me want to cry, but I think that the pain will soon go away completely.

Thanks for making a crazy momma feel better! Razz

Chihuahua Kisses,

Hi Candace. I am so glad Bear is doing well. It takes them a few days to snap back from any operation. In a few days he will be bouncing off the wall in proper Bear fashion....lol I am still waiting for you to drop by the maniacs, but I know you are busy caring for the little guy. Looking forward to seeing new pictures too. You and Bear have a great weekend.
