The Pet Owners were told a few Lies! One was that they would have to leave them behind... LIE! They could have called the La. SPCA & left the pets with them! There was/is pick up if they have an address/location! They were also told that they could return & get their dogs... FOR the most part, if they ever can, it will be too late! Pet Owners need to know the truth! BEFORE this happens again! YOU can't just take everything for granted... YOU MUST PLAN AHEAD! Or your PETS will pay.. PLEASE SEE "IN THE NEWS" for who to contact to help! I saw some of the Rescue centers(8 of them) and there is PLENTY OF ROOM for the Katrina-fur-evacuees!

Oh Rosemary, I am so heartbroken over this situation. That video on CNN that shows them rescuing a man and his dog jumping in the water and swimming after the boat! How absolutely terrifying to know he was being abandoned. I'll never understand why they couldn't pick up that dog and take it with them. NEVER UNDERSTAND IT! We were discussing that at home today. I would never be able to leave Lady, Tobi and Lulubelle to fend for themselves. It would just kill me to abandon them.

There were several stories, that really were heart wrenching. A lady whom survived the storm(She was elderly) and the dog followed the rescuers in the military boat also & the dog suffered same result as the one you spoke of. Yesterday, they found an elderly Man & Wife & dog found dead in their attic(Sign was on the door), that they were up there.No Body paid attention to them in time.The rescuers couldn't get in to help them because of the Shooters(Snipers). A MSNBC Reporter stated that she watched a dog drink the water & 15 min watched it die... Stupid reporter couldn't give the dog clean water??? Was it so she could report that? I guess because of the first dogs/cats dying because the owners could not take them with to the shelters. Because some owners died because they had to chose. The rules are now being changed. The Owners can now take the animals with & then have the rescues take the animals to the Animal Shelters. There has been a lot of animals saved. With or without a Hurricane or another 'EVENT" with warning,People MUST learn to be responsible. Alot of pet owners got out ahead of time(Obeyed evacuation orders) some pet owners, called the Rescues & had their animals evacuated, which were moving the pets out to Houston etc, 2 DAYS AHEAD OF THE STORM!Even cleared out their animals to other rescues, so that they could make room for others. I have watched many hrs of coverage from different sources, have seen where people even left kids at shelters... RIGHT NOW, there are unclaimed children... WELL over 1000! Gimme a break. There is much blame to go around & I don't want to get into that. BUT we must take some personal responsibility for our personal safety. I remember 4 yrs ago, being told to be prepared, to make plans & get certain things for an emergency evacuation etc. If we choose to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, why put the blame on others. I have a Cousin who is a Nurse in Orleans.(She is on lockdown..was the last I heard from her over a week ago)Her son at Tulane(sp?)..he was evacuated too. She told me of some of the stuff that goes on down there. I was truly amazed that worse hadn't happened there. I am amazed that people acted the way they did. I feel badly for the Older People who wanted to get out & couldn't, I feel badly for the Young Children who can't help what happened to them. I feel badly for the animals who had no choice in their agony & deaths. I feel disgust who will not take responsibility for their own actions or lack of & thus others have suffered. I feel pity for those who do not want to face the truth, but would rather believe all the lies, for they will never change their ways!*People who are blaming certain government depts. for doing or not doing certain tasks, need to learn what the laws say. ONLY certain People(Offices-Levels of govts.) can do/ORDER certain depts. to do certain things. In OUR Country, The laws/Constitution clearly states who can order them out! Literally it takes "An ACT OF CONGRESS" to do certain things. If people keep being IRRESPONSIBLE by ignoring warnings, things will keep happening to them needlessly. America Govt. can't afford to keep up paying for needless irresponsibility. There will be many more Events that will happen & can we keep hurting the economy & still stay strong? I'd sure like to know why there are so many children left waiting for their parents to identify them... My Cousin also told me that there is a huge,huge amt of TB in Orleans.. She also told me of the HUGE lack of parents getting their kids 'Shots'! WHY? They are FREE! WHO will pay for the children getting all of the diseases & conditions later in their lives? Some things that happen are not preventable & somethings are!
