Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Frown The Zebra Finches eggs weren't fertile, I think I will have to find the males a good home, If I don't the females will just keep laying eggs and it will wear them out.
Here are a few recent pics.

Smile You can see the males are paired with the females, the males have a redder beak and have an orange spot on the side of its head.

My female peach-faced lovebird, Nibbles was a human-only bird and laid eggs CONSTANTLY! We kept a cuttlefish bone in the cage and that was pretty much all we could do Frown Nibbles laid lots of "duds" and died around 5 years of age.

Wink I'm only going to try and find a home for the males, the females will just keep laying eggs and they will die earlier, Barbi the unfertile eggs are thrown away, if they are fertile then you have more Finches, which I don't want, thats another reason why I need to get rid of the males. they will just keep mating with the females , until they are wore out basically. I should have read up on these birds before I got the males . Roll Eyes
Also if the eggs do hatch then at the young age of about 2 and a half months the males will try to mate with the young ones, if they are not separeted, so that poses a problem too .

I own few zebra finches. You can separate the 2 pairs in different cages. They need vitamins and calcium to make the eggs shells hard, if they are not strong, they broke and they don't hatch or are throw from the nest. they also needs sun light or artificial light. In the site www.Drfostersmith.com you can find a great variety of things to birds, from food to toys. Hope this can help you. Mayra

try putting scotch mints, or maybe white marbles in the nests, we did that with my bird but the mints got sticky sometimes
it helped...

the marbles / scotch mints / fake eggs trick the bird into not laying MORE eggs
that's what I should have said! sheesh!
