Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Congratulations on your new Timneh!! You're in for some fun.

smileycolors

I don't have one personally, but know someone who does. She has quite a few birds so I called her and asked on your behalf. The first thing she says is that:

1) A Timneh African Grey has a more laidback personality than other birds.
2) They're not as high-strung as well. She has a parrot who goes bezerk if she relocates his cage within the room, or when he sees strangers. Her African Grey is more relaxed.
3) Get them extremely young because she finds they are a little difficult to tame.

Last, but not least,

4) She doesn't have a computer Frown she would have enjoyed chatting with you about your new pet.

I hope this is helpful Smile Be sure to post pics when you get yours, we'll be looking forward to seeing them.

African Greys are beautiful birds. Are you getting a male or a female? Have you picked out a name yet? Cannot wait to see photographs. KissSmile

Thanks everyone, I'd pretty much heard they are great birds to have. I don't know what the sex is.I have three babies to pick from and won't get to see them for another week or so.As for the name,I'll probably have to wait til I bring it home,I always have to see what "fits", you know mull a few names over before I decide. I will be getting it very young and it will be handfed so hopefully not a problem with taming.Don't worry I will be posting pix as soon as I can. Yippee

Thanks everyone, I pretty much had the idea greys were special birds.I'm getting a handfed baby so it should be tame.I get to visit it til it's old enough to take home.I don't know what the sex will be,I'll have three to choose from but I don't think she sexes them,it doesn't matter to me.As for names that's something I'll have to wait on til I get to know the bird,to see what "fits" Don't worry I'll be taking plenty of pictures! And will post them too. Now for the waiting game.(sigh)Oh well it'll be worth it. juggle

I own a female Timneth African Grey , 4 years old, called Tikki. She is very funny. At 10 months she began to make "noises" Now she can say more than 30 words, phrases and whistles. She calls me "mami" -spanish for mom, amd my mom is "abuela"-spanish for grandma. When the dogs are barking, she calls:"mami, callados",(mom, quiet).
They are very smart. One day she was very playfull, and call my mom, mom go to the cage and she said, "te quiero"-I love you. mom go to her business and Tikki calls her again- abuela.... mom go to the cage again, and she again said :"te quiero".
If tamed, please, take it from the cage each day and play with him/her. Give toys to play with, they love toys, wooden, ropes.... you name it. Don't give only seeds, they can eat almost everything, broccoli is good for their bones, have enought calcium. Don't give a bird grape or apple seeds, avocado, chocolate, cofee or anything with caffeine. Luck with your new baby.

What a beautiful grey Tikki is! My mom also had one of these. They are sooo smart and can learn just about anything. You'll have to keep us up to date on all the things he's learning!

Well, she is very funny, (Tikki is a girl) and very intelligent. I buy her when she was 1 1/2 yrs. She has been with me for 2 1/2 yrs. When I pick her, she only know 5 words or phrases, now she is very smart and knows more than 20 phrases ,whistles and words. She talks all day long!!

Are they expensive? Maybe I can convince my rents to let me get a bird instead. I just want a pet! I learned my lesson.

Don't know how much is the price in FL, but here in P>R we pay $650.00 for her. You can take a look on www.birdtalk.com under the classifiers and see

For the number of years they live and the love and happiness they provide, I would gladly pay $650.00 for one of them.
