Hi, we're so glad you're
visiting.
Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.
The CFP Forum is officially "inactive"
-- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it. All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.
Sorry, Barbi, I'm trying to picture this! The only "action" that I have seen that resembles what you are saying is something that is called"scooting". That is when a dog, kinda drags their butt along the ground(Grass works best I'm sure) usually after they have a BM! While it actually does "clean" their butts, it serves a couple of other functions: it pushes on the ANAL GLAND, thus "empties" it! and reduces the pressure! And The liquid(scent)marks the BM/territory. Actually the next dog then"reads" the scent, to tell, everything about the dog who left it. Strange"means of communication"!
Then scooting it is because that's exactly what Lulu does except it looks like Michael Jackson's moonwalking because she takes it to a distance. It just makes us laugh every time she does it because it looks so funny. I've never seen Tobi or Lady do that and watching my tiny Lulu at it is hillarious.
if the BMs are usually soft, they are not firm/hard enough to "release" the Anal Glands fluid. the Scooting also helps this. If they don't either you , the groomer or Vet has to do it> Very stinky! wear gloves. "Post it notes" would have been nicer!
Scooching is a baaaaddddd thing Barbi. It can mean several things 1. she could have worms 2. her anal sack is full and need to be drained ( very grosse!)or 3 she has hemeroids yes I said it hemeroids. Scooching is not a good thing at all. Sorry Barbi but my last 2 dogs did that before the got sick to their stomach. You might want to ask your vet about it. Its not normal doggie behavior.

I don't think it's a bad thing, either. In fact, my parents dog Shadow does it and the last time he was at the vet they asked about it and they said it was perfectly natural for some dogs to do that.
It can mean worms(I guess I assumed that lil Lulu has been checked for that) and the Hemeroids, do itch, but again I was assuming that Lulu was already checked & she is a lil young(Assumming that) she has normal bms & isn't constipated or yelping when she does it. While we can't ASSUME that every "trick" they do is "Harmless" neither can we assume that it is "Harmfull". I've had dogs that "Scratch up the dirt" throwing it up behind then after they do their "DUTY" like saying"tada" or something!(My Hubby yells "TORO", when they do it!) I think it's wise to ask the vet questions when I have an appointment, I believe that the only"DUMB QUESTION" there is , is the one you don't ask! If your vet doesn't like the questions, find another vet! Most vets don't mind, especially if you have then written down, It shows him that you value their opinions & knowledge. They go to school a long time to get it. If you keep the questions reasonable, they really don't mind. I've has vets tell me that "questions" can give them clues into what's wrong with a dog, when they can't figure out a prognosis. Be thorough when you tell the vet what's wrong with the pet(make a list, who, what, when, where, why & How) recent changes,in the dogs environment(food, activity, water, housing & new pets/or other animals etc) Our vet would have never guessed that Greta Had Giardia, if we had not told him that she had been"camping-roughing it" in the woods with her transporters. Vets have to be "investigators" and pet owners sometimes have to "fill in" the puzzle! Anyway, Barbi let us know what your vet says it is.
I only mentioned those things because when my previous two dogs did that it meant something was wrong or really bothering them. But they were also senior citizens by that time. With her age it could just be something simple like alergies. But it drives me insaine to see my dogs doing that. It dosen't mean that there is something wrong with Lulu but I am just going by past doggie experiences.

My dogs never scooted their butts on the grass after a BM, however, I do catch Bowser doing something wierd. After he has a BM he will kick his back feet out, like he was a horse or something and dig up some grass. to see. He doesn't do it all of the time though, but it's still funny to watch. Angus, is boring, he just has a regular BM
Yep, Mary I think Bowser does the "toro" thing that I was talking about! Cute to watch unless it dirt & rocks and you are planting things & get"sand Blasted" trust me, I've caught the dust from that more than once *Cough*
I am sitting here cracking up reading this post, you guys are so funny, Barbi, I haver never seen a dog do that , but I would like to,....lol I don't think it means anything other than shes wiping her butt.
Lulu's been given a clean bill of health by her vet - no worms and no constipation. I honestly think she's wiping her tiny butt!! I have to take a picture - it's hilarious.
