Hi, we're so glad you're

-- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it. All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.
Well Bodie the black Lab I was telling everyone about is finally here. it was soooo sad for her and her mommy, I really wish she could have taken her with her. I will take some pics of her later but right now she's wayyyy to stressed. she's walking around the house looking for Rebecca and she's so affraid of my hubby. the other dogs have not seen her yet in person. I let her look at them through the window. she's really small. I feel so bad for her I've heard that dogs can only think about like a two year old child. so think of how upset a two year old would be if you were to drop them with strangers nice or not and never come back!

she's so scared of everything and every one right now. I'm not sure what to think, I've never seen a dog so stand off before. she did sleep right next to my bed the entire night. I tried to crate her but she was scared when I put her in there. Trixie was being a little nasty to her too, she didn't want her in the bedroom at all.

Everything is new to her, so she's going to be shy & standoffish. She doesn't know what is expected of her. Totally normal. Think about how you would feel, new everything, she doesn't know when mom is coming for her. A couple new dogs to think about. Between the canine pecking order, she has to figure out where she fits in with your family too. Give it time. Now you may want to call that trainer friend of yours.
heres some good news, Chloe and her seem to like each other enough. Bodie's personality is not controlling and she doesn't seem to have any bones with Chloe or Trixie. Trixie is just showing her right now who's boss. My husband fell in love with Bodie last night. of course he's not admitting it but I over heard him talking baby talk to her and calling her a Maggie dog. thats the name of the dog he had a few years ago. heres the other thing to think about, I took her because I didn't want this girl to feel the pain of knowing her dog would more than likely be killed in a shelter, I have had someone express interest in her, but! they live in the country their dogs are free to rome as they please, also they have a male pit bull and I'm not so sure about that. if she stays here she'll be safe in the house and back yard. no male dogs either and we'll eventually in the next few months have her spayed. but first Chloe gets it done. I have been in the past concerned about the finances but I'm starting to see better progress so I feel we may be able to afford three dogs easier. I just don't know what to do. If someone came to me that I felt would be careful with her and she wouldn't be in danger of getting carried off by coyotes or worse then I'd let her go to them. what do you think I should do?

Take it one day at a time...Talk to your husband...really see how he feels about it. I have a problem with giving her to someone who has a male dog. Being as lil Bodie is not spayed. I would make it a priority about getting your girls spayed! There has to be a low cost spay clinic(either the rescues, pounds, animal welfare league or animal control dept. will know(also low cost shot clinics too)! Is there a PetSmart around you? maybe they would know where there is a clinic. What did your friend(that owned the dog)say? Her wishes for the dog was for the BEST HOME possible. I don't believe in a "free running" dog is the best home. Fences also protect the dog! Cars,Coyotes,Ferel dogs(dog Packs), thiefs & Dog-hating freaks are out there! Dogs running loose is stupid! I don't mean that dogs should be tied up all the time either-actually that is REALLY cruel! This Bodie, is going through a really hard time & deserves as good a home as possible, a Forever Home! I can't see ever giving up my girls-either one. But IF it ever came up to where my Hubby & I were unable to care for them( Like both of us TOTALLY DISABLED!in a Vegetable State- then I would want them to have another-a home better than mine. Maybe...Second thought I'd probably find someone to come in & take care of them here! There aren't very many homes that I could find, where the Girls would be as comfortable as they are here. In my home, the girls are welcome to lay on any & all of my furniture. Run & play anywhere in my home, smudge the windows, sleep where they want, go out to do their business when ever they have to, I'm home 24/7 with them, or they go with(Just like kids)SEE MY POINT? They DO obey the Rules in OUR home, but every Home is different, with different rules & expectations. Just moving a dog from place to place is bad for a dog, they need to bond. I think that if a dog gets tossed from one place to another, that they suffer in alot of ways(mentally & Physically) Think it over, take your time. Where there's Love there's a way!

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being silly feeling like I didn't want those people to take her. my mom looked at her but said she was too small for her likings. I don't care I just didn't want her to be put down for lack of having a home. My friend that wanted the dog for her sister in law who lives in the country thought I was being silly I think. our low cost spay here is the Humane society. dogs go in but they don't come out. besides they'll do it for 60.00 well it won't cost much more than that for our Dr. to do them since their small. Rebecca just told me when she asked me to take Bodie that she didn't want to have to take her to the pound and that was going to be the only option since she had found no takers for her. she said she's known our family for years and she has. she grew up staying over at our house with my sister so she knew that we loved our pets and they were well cared for. but she told me if I needed to find her another home that was ok that she trusted my judgement. Destinee my oldest loves Bodie and when my sister came to see her today and said she wondered if Bodie would play with her dog Destinee got very upset and said no!!!! I love her!!!! I do think your right moving her again could be really bad for her. I met a lady today that has two Dobermens 1 and 2 years and she's giving them away because her neighbor hates them and she's scared for them. my mom said She would like to see the dogs and that was a little more the size she'd like to have. I don't know we'll see.

She(Bodie) is a Black Lab right? Size for a good family dog doesn't matter(unless you are into dog showing & breeding), which I know you're not. There's a Great saying about horses, which You can adapt here. They never put a good color on a bad horse & they Never put a bad color on a good horse...If Bodie os a good family dog(which she sounds like- then she's a GOOD size!(I sometimes wish my girls were a lil smaller when we're all in bed together!) Smaller dogs eat less! LOL What is Hubby saying? If some one is set on getting a certain dog breed then, that's what they should get...if they don't know all about the Breed, they may not be happy later. Labs as a whole are wonderful dogs, great family dogs(although every dog can be tormented into biting!) Great watch dogs & wonderful to have around. Bad Breeding practices can make for bad dispositions. But Bodie seems to be good in that department, according to what you say! If Hubby wants another dog, and you & your daughter do & you have the place & resources...
Zack is so hard to read or get anything out of. he just jokes around and says I knew you'd want to keep her talking about me. I think he enjoy's her though and she's starting to warm up to him. I'm not sure what her mix is Rebecca said her mom was a lab and her dad was a lab mix. she has really short wire like hair and her bark sounds like a lil puppy. I actually had to go out in the yard and see if a little dog got in the yard, then she barked again and it's her!I've never heard a lab bark like that. I'd like to call her something other than Bodie because it sounds like a boy's name but I'm not sure what yet. it needs to be something that sounds kind of like her name now I guess.

oh I forgot to tell ya, i ran into a lady at the school today who has two donermens well I had Chloe with me and she was petting her and said how her daughter always wanted a hound dog. I told her well, you really have to love dogs to have one of these because their smart but she seems to have a lot of weird little things about her. like wetting herself when she sleeps to name one. anyway she said she has to find homes for both of her dogs, I knew she paid a lot for them and asked how much she was aksing and she said their free to good home. her girl is a year old. my mom only wants a female dog becuase she already has two male dogs. I told my mom and she is going to meet the lady at the school tomorrow to look at her female. she said she has to find them homes quickly because her neighbor does not like the dogs and is threatening her. Mom and Dad were excited about it. I don't know they just want a really large dog, Moms kind of like I am the bigger the dog the better. I think there is some level of security too though, my brother is at that teenage age where other kids start ringing the door bell and not all of them are kids we want him bringing in the house. it's much easier for him and my parents to say I'm sorry we have a large dog that does not take kind to strangers. Dutchess always scared the kids when they'd come to the door. They never had a problem with their cars getting broken into until the year either and now they've had them broken into like 3 times in the past few months. I think They'd just feel better having a dog in the house that will be a little more threatning.

Maggie sounds like a good name! Dobies are good dogs, They do need atleast Basic obedience training. Homeowner's Insurance goes up when you have one(NOW there are several Breeds that will Make you wonder WHY the INSURANCE is SO HIGH! They are considered HIGH RISK! I had a BLUE HEELER Female that would take on a LION! She was a medium sized dog, with Teeth like a Gator! She would look at a convict & they would run from her, she never even had to Growl! She was very protective of everything we owned & US! I really had to watch her, and remember that she was always ON DUTY! Totally different than our Girls(Hannah & Greta) Greta does watch though, I really don't know what she would do if someone threatened us. She always "alerts" if someone comes to the door. Hannah is the "Greeter"! Greta is much more serious about things that she's not sure of, she runs to my side & looks up to me, where Hannah just goes up to everyone. When I tell Greta, "it's Okay" she Joins Hannah, getting Pats & giving sloopy kisses. I think that their Past Life Experiences, is the difference. If this Lady, has socialized the dobies well, your mom shouldn't have any trouble. Hopefully the other dogs will accept her. Although I've heard of neighbors being a problem & even some hurting, poisoning neighbors dogs,I just wonder if I had the neighbor problem, that this lady has if I'd move or get rid of my girls...NAH! There's be a Uhaul needed, if I couldn't get them to move, I would!
When I talked to the lady last night she told me she has had her male in training but didn't do the girl yet, however she does bring them around people and has had her girl at the school before. I think I'll be able to get my camera out today and take some pics of Bodie. she's getting used to us now and in the middle of the night actually climbed up in the bed and snuggled me. My sister talked to Rebecca yesterday and she said she cried all the way to Indiana she missed her dog so bad.
