Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Keeau has been adopted !!!

I pulled some strings with Animal Control, They told me that if I could find Keeau a home they would NOT put him to sleep, only thing I had to do was make sure it was not in this county(since the biting incident) Keeau was adopted today in a neighboring county to a man with another Siberian Husky...Woooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooooooooo I am so Happy....I got word a few minutes ago that it looks like that they are gonna work out just fine banana

Here's a story, that at the end, you will see how, it ties into what happens in simular cases where dogs aren't "de-trained: re-trained & resocialized after a a "Poor Beginning"...before "reintroduced into society" or placed into a new home, where their special needs are totally met. It is so important, that they get this specialized training, before they are placed into a new set of circumstances. They need to deal with their OLD problems, BEFORE, they can deal with new circumstances successfully. IT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE! There were two weimi boys a couple of mo ago, that were deserted in a boarding kennel by their owner.(down Near Tucson)the kennel owner, kept them 2 yrs locked up & rarely got let out. They were pplaced in this Kennel when they were about a yr old & were happy young dogs before the kennel. Anyway, this guy tells a rescue, months before, to come & get them or he(the boarding kennel owner was going to put them down. The "Breed Rescue" did nothing... one day(on a friday) the kennel owner tells this lady(who works for an attorney) that if the two weims, didn't have a new home by monday morning, they were going to be put out of their misery. So this Office Lady puts out a call for help...on the web. well, this other friend of mine (Dalmation Rescuer) From Phx area e-mails me(way on the other side of the state, about it. I contacted everyone, I knew, and did come up with someone that at least could go get them & transport them to me. Then I would figure out what to do with them. Well, when my transporters got to the kennel, only one was there. The other, was picked up by a woman & her child, just a few hrs before. I questioned that, but the kennel owner really didn't care. The two dogs had been in the same run for 2 yrs & were both owned & deserted by the same person, the dogs were quite dependent on each other emotionally & got freaked when they were separated. But this other person, dragged the slightly younger weim away. So my transporter, brought this one dog back to me. The kennel owner said(on the phone) that this dog was in great shape. He had also said the dog was UTD(Up to Date) on all shots & wormed etc. Well, turns out it was all a big lie. When the dog was dropped of to me, he was in sad shape. neglected for 2 yrs. just thrown minimal amt of food & water. Anyway, I was very angry, but it was Saturday nite @ about 8pm when he arrived. Greta wanted to make friends & Hannah(spoiled & completely rotten)thought he was disgusting & wanted him gone. Saturday night was tense, I fed & cleaned him up. I was angry at the kennel owner. True he hadn't gotten paid in a long while to take care of the two boys, but you don't "Not take care"of a "Living" creature, when it's on your property. Anyway, I could see that he needed medical help. Well, I got Hubby to transport him down to Phx, to a "Pet Resort", who has a great vet staff, who is partnered to area rescues & my Dalm. Rescue Friend, would oversee the Vet's examination(Meanwhile, I started up a "Medical Help Fund" for the vet & board bills, that would start accruing. Well, my friend, spread the word about this weimi & his partner. She also roounded up a well known Weimi rescuer(NOT the original one, that "overlooked" their needs & forgot them) BUT this lady weim rescuer, is the BEST> She does it right! She detrains, does the analysis of ALL the dogs needs(Mental as well as the physical ones)retrains, socializes & finds the perfect foster home & if possible finds the perfect forever home. The prospective home is investigated, home visits done, references checked out. Then after this lady works with the dog personally with the dog, then the home & then(usually after weeks or even months) when the time is perfect for the dog. A trial period is set. This is definately not a "rushed" or a hap-hazard pairing, rather well planned & tried plan. She has the highest "Successful Placement" rate, anywhere in the country(from what I've found out)every dog that she ever placed, that did not die of old age, is still in those homes today. There is Only one, that is not...The adopter(a man) died of a heartattack. The dog was "adopted out" again & is still there. Back to this weim situation. The weim that I had transported was seen by a vet & all the necessary work done on him. Then he was taken to the Lady Weimi Rescuer's home for evaluation. Here's the "Twist" to this story. The other weimi boy, was brought to Phx, where the woman & her son lived with the rest of their family & PETS. Upon arrival(with in 2 hrs.) it was clear that it wasn't going to work out. The dog was scared, paniced & for some unknown reason, bit the woman's son twice & reportedly a neighbor kid too. Guess, there was a pet arguement too. So she called Animal Control & had the other Weimi boy hauled away. Just so happens, that this weimi rescue woman that was dealing with my weimi guy, had a working relationship with Phx animal control. They release "Problemed" Weimis over to her after the "10 day mandatory BITE isolation" is completed instead of "Destroying" the dog. She then works with these weimis, until they are "ready". She know how to spot & deal with these problem dogs. Anyway, both dogs are back together and when the time is right they will be placed together. This is why I believe, that dogs, who have been tied up, locked up, alienated, abused(Mentally &/or physically)need therapy & "reprograming". The ordinary person, is not able to deal with problems that are "Deep seeded" in the dog and doesn't always see what "triggers" antisociable behavior. When this lady works with a dog, it lives with her 24-7, much more effective, than a trainer, coming out to your home for a few moments. One of the tricks, that I learned, long ago, to stop territorial-preventable problems, is to Introduce 2 dogs that are strangers to each other, on Ground, that is UNFAMILIAR to BOTH dogs. NOT at the home of one of them. That is what we did to Hannah & Greta. The dog park was fun & strange to both dogs. I'm very glad that Keeau's story ended happily for him. Two is a good number, ask my Girls!

Thank you so much Rosemary for sharing that story, now my question is this you seem to be involved in rescue. why didn't the dog trainer help me get connected with someone that could help me out with Zoey? everyone I contacted for help with to try and place Chloe because I didn't think anyone would take Zoey being that she was a mix and too that she had aggression never responded. not even to give help. I did Madsend out e-mails to a few St. Bernard rescues too just to see if they could help and no one responded. that is upsetting to me that Vets and trainers were involved here with my situation and no one could help me get connected with a professional to take Zoey!!!! Everyone said that Zoey being a mix would be a problem. The vets office and I went to two different ones and called everyone in town said no rescue would have her with that kind of behavior!!!!! whats wrong with my City!!!!!! does no one help around here anymore??????? Mad

Mommybopp, I associate with some pretty miraculous people...Rescuers that will go beyond the call of duty. We all have certain abilities & when we put them altogether, for the sake of the dogs, we can do some awesome things. Yvonne, this Weimi that I got, needed medical help urgently. God opened the doors for me to help, all I had to do was let Him work through me.. Even the Rescuer in Phx said that she was awe struck, by the way this all went down. It was not by coincidence, that she Literally ran into the right lady & the dog park, while the weimi boy was enroute to her(neither of us) knew this woman weimi rescuer previously. I had heard of her long ago, but didn't know how nor where to get in contact with her. With in the 3 1/2 hr ride(my Hubby & the Weimi)down to Phx, My Dal Rescuer friend, who happened to be at the Park/dog park with some of her rescued dalms, when this lady jogged past with a couple of rescued Weimis...That's how it happened, that's how it works, when it's meant to happen! Sometimes, when you open your mind & heart to help someone, God intervenes & opens the right doors! All you gotta be is willing.

well maybe it was just Gods Will that Zoey be put down then. I sure did pray for help between her and Chloe and for someone to help but not much came along. We have this one big rescue here that I heard about but a friend adopted a dog from them and the dog was under nourished real bad. feed the dog a cup of dog food per day and that was it, the dog was covered in ring worms too and had not treatment for it. she had all kinds of problems physically that had not been taken care of. my friend took the dog because she wanted to help her. finding out from the foster family how they feed her though was very disturbing. why do they let people foster who can't financially care for the dogs?
Some day I'd love to learn all about training and rescue etc. for now I have little kids and am doing my best just to raise them. maybe when they are much much older. from hearing you talk about these rescues they don't sound like anything we have local.

Do you remember me telling about the shape Greta was in, when we first got her? She was a wreck! I really don't know how she could have survived much longer in the same situation. I think it was her shear desire to live that kept her going! Physically, she was a disaster. The vet shook his head when I came in with her. Her body was horrible but her heart was made of Gold. She had been handed off, then returned more than a few times. She needed a REAL Chance. She needed that extra help to get healthy & Happy. We had to be Committed to going all the way with her and it had paid off. BECAUSE of the way, that we weren't told the whole truth about her physical problems(we would have still taken her just the same)I did see some of her apparent problems in the picture, that I was sent-They even tried to hide it, when I pointed it out in the picture, they assumed that we would not want her. I told them that I wanted her BECAUSE of those problems. For I knew she would be passed over for cute lil puppies at the Rescue. Another thing & reason, why I felt that we needed to get her, was that she was in such a deserted area, that no one would find her. I was Offered other Female Weims by the Breed Rescues in a few states...but those lil girls were VERY ADOPTABLE. I knew that they would soon be adopted(and they were too), So because of Greta, I decided to stop saying that "it's a shame about all the dogs being put-down etc, that I would try to help & do it the way that I know it should be done. That's how I got involved with Rescue. I'm sure I drove the Rescue ladies that I know, NUTS, when I used to say that it all was a shame...but did nothing about it, myself. True, there are alot of PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT NEED HELP TOO! Like I said before, If we all did a lil things could & would change. I sure do hope that things change where you live, for the sakes of the pets, sounds like CHANGE is what's needed. I know all Rescues have a needs/"Wish list". Sometimes they need people just to volunteer a few hours a week to walk dogs, feed, clean up or even groom. It can make a real difference. Sometimes if someone, goes around asking for donations for food & supplies & equipment etc it can make a difference. Or like getting some businesses to donate good or services for an auction or event money can be raised for the rescue too. Burn out amongst Rescue People is big time too. Have a wonderful & Blessed Christmas!

oh that pic of the dogs in the basket is too cute. something is very very wrong in our city on many levels. it's not just animal control and the humane society we also have a major prob with our police departemnt. it's huge and being splashed all over the news here. I've know for a long time it was not good and so have many others. our entire City has a bad case of Lazy if you ask me.
now how does this foster family stuff work with the rescues? I was under the impression that you pay a certain amount for the dog when you adopt them, then all of that money goes back to the foster parents to cover the medical and also food needs of the dogs. when Karen adopted her boxer it was very clear that she was sick and in need of help. I'm so happy she has my friend as her mommy she'll have a good home now. Smile
