Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Can't wait to see pics!! I bet Curtis will look wonderful! Smile I need to take LuLu to the groomers! Smile Do you guys think it is a good idea to get her shaved during the summer? I've seen a lot of golden retrievers who are so far this summer. I'm not sure whether to or not. But with all of this west nile, and stuff I wondering if it would be a good idea??

Tiffany, I would NOT-GET LULU CLIPPED!THAT HAIR IS PROTECTION! those Clips look ok for a poodle I guess, but not for your baby! I wish, with all the Mosquito-borne diseases, My girls had a lil protection(there is no Canine approved vac. for WNV & don't forget those nasty heartworms too!

Unless shes misserably hot I wouldn't shave her. I would have her hair cut really short but not shaved. If you are afraid of WNV I use the avon's skin so soft on my girls. Especially on Mya sinc she has next to no hair. I put it on Allys tummy. They don't seem to lick it off or at least not when I am with them. But pets like people can be sensetive to that kind of stuff too. Ask your vet if there is something you can put on them for protection.

on a site that Rosemary posted I read that you can use a mixture of tea tree oil and lavender to repel mosquitos from your pets and yourself. I looked and found some tea tree oil at walmart. it was just a few $$$ but not sure where to get the lavender. also I read on this same site that this lady doesn't give her pets heart worm pills. she says that she just does thing to repel the mosquitos. and she also said that dogs roll themselves in the dirt to mask the smell to keep mosquitos away. I dunno I guess it's up to every pet parent and vet to say whats best. I won't shave Zoey, I look at her fur as protection. Wave

Please don't rely on a dog rolling in the dirt for protection. If it worked no dirty dog would have heartworms! I noticed that the Heartland Weimi Rescue had a bunch of Heartworm Positive Dogs a while back. That's a lot of Texas dogs with heartworms & if a mosquito got them to give them HW then it very well could have given them WNV also! When an animal or human exhails the mosquito is drawn(as well as sweat) Also Citronella repels them. Also Just worry about the FEMALE, she is the only one that bites. Who's gonna wait to see what sex it is, before you nail it? Some of the Skin so soft is suppose to keep flys away from horses too, dunno, cuz it didn't work on mine. guess some flys maybe more determined than other types. Bounce dryer sheets are suppose to work also, there is a bounce site too.

I know how to groom, did it for many years. Even did show grooming for a lot of breeds. Still have my Oster A5 Clippers, plucking combs scissors, etc etc! I'd still rather have the longer hair on a dog. Rather they be protected than my convience.

Hannah loves to slap Greta, But Greta is very fast on her feet. Hannah is younger & Unco-ordinated yet. They make some weird noises at each other, like "gargle"or like a cross of trying to talk when a dentist has his hands in your mouth and a bumble bee's hum, and both do it at the same time. They lay on their backs, feet waving at each other, mouths open, teeth clacking & making that noise. Like neither of them can figure out who is suppose to be "submissive to the other"-Neither wants to be Alpha! lol

The Dish repairman, thinks I have 2 psych-dogs! He saw it and I kept watching him looking at my dogs...Like he thought my 2 girls were Rabied! Eek Just before he left he said, "Lady, I've got 4 dogs myself & I've seen lots of dogs. But never have I ever saw 2 dogs act like yours. Are they like that all the time?" I said, I don't understand , what ever do you mean?(hehehe) He said, "well, when you left out of the room, they both went up on the couch(like 2 people) then, they said something to each other, both jumped on the floor, flipped over onto their backs, with their heads close to each other, waved their feet in the air & making this weird noise at each other! I was so scared! Eek I thought something was wrong with them?" I just said , oh, that, they are fine! they do that all the time! they got bored Roll Eyeswhen you turned off their favorite dog cartoon show! And they were watching it! *I almost cracked up laughing at his "freaked out" look!* He said, hmmmm ohhh okay! as he got a weirder look on his face! He just left & will be back wed or thurs. Bet he doesn't turn the channel! lol the pic is Hannah watching tv, she loves some of the cartoon shows!
