Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Yesterday when I was busy giving Trixie a bath had just done Bodie and Chloe, Well I thought ok Bodie can run around in the back yard while I finish up with Trixie, Oh no!!!! she very quietly climbed the fence and took off. so what did I do I told Zack get that fence hooked up she needs to learn not to do this! took her outback today and she climbed the fence even though it shocked her she didn't care!!!! I followed her almost down to a major hwy I was so scared but the more I followed the faster she went. called one last time and turned to head home looking over my shoulder, then she took off back for our house running really fast but the ran right past the house the other way! I followed her that way till I got her attention fully and then turned to walk back home I actually had to go inside the house and close the glass door for her to come back, she cocked her head and ran right to the door and right into the house.
she now knows what treats are and she knows I don't want her to do this and she seems to have bonded to me. why does she do this though? so now not only do we have to just be out back with her we have to follow her everywhere she goes because if you turn your back even to tie your show she'll be gone!

Has she had any obedience training? "Come" is a REALLY important command, if not THE most important a dog should know.

Also, how high is your fence?

I guess it's the standard 4t chain link. this am I took her out to use the bathroom and she tried it right in front of us. we yelled no and she jumped away from the fence kind of fell off. don't know what we'll do next I think we're just going to have to take her out on a leash in the back yard. I think it's sad that she won't really be able to run.

I have a 6 ft chain link(w/toprail) I also have Railroad ties at the bottom(prevents digging) My girls have toys out back. Does your girl have others out with her? How about a cable that doesn't allow her near the fence line? I wonder about a 4 ft fence with a lab? Most med-large dogs would go over that. I maintain a tall fence just not to keep my girls in, but to keep others out. I also have a kennel run 10X22 for separation & smaller area confinement. I think a 4 ft fence is just too tempting & easy. Obedience training does wonders for bonding too!

We may end up with obedience training. no if she's staying we will end up with it. Trixie has never gone over the fence. but what I don't understand is we put the wire there I know it's on Zack checked it. we have toy's like crazy and we don't allow her out alone, I was right there just on the patio then this morning we were just letting her run and play and she ran right for the fence and tried to go up. she just absolutely must have me right there focused on her at all time when she's out.
when she gets out all she does is run really fast up and down the street. sometimes she runs circles in the back yard really fast and I can tell she want to run more. it's like she's cooped up. I'm worried about letting her go to someone in the country but it's like thats almost what she needs the way she has a need to run. but then it's weird I don't really know what she needs because she sure is happy here and she sure does love to curl up in bed with us. Dunno

Every Single morning(at dawn), Our girls, stand over the top of my husband, stare down into my husbands face and breathe on him! Then a lick or two sometimes usually does the trick! They know that Immediately, he will get up & take them to the park(County Fair Grounds(8 ft hi fenced)Baseball grassy field! there they run & play for 45-60 min. then they all come home & eat. Hunting/field dogs MUST run. All dogs should get some exercize. Just as exercize helps the human bone strength, it also builds muscle, which maintains the joint wellness in dogs. Dogs also needs sunshine too,it helps them mentally & physically! We take them first thing in the morning when it is cool out, probably now, we will work it differently-if they let us! It didn't take long for the routine to become habit. After the exercize & they eat, they are content & snooze. Caution, you have to watch the timing, do not 'Force-run' dogs that aren't use to it for various reasons: dogs need to slowly work into extensive exercize as a human does. times of feeding/water consumption and exercize are also important as it can bring on Bloat. Free play between dogs is great for them, add in a human with a ball or a fetch toy & it's good for everyone! We make sure that we first walk the field first closing all gates & looking for things that the dog shouldn't have & remove them) we also clean up the dogs' "Litter" too. we carry plastic grocery bags with us. We leave the place better than we find it, so the county never minds us using the field! We also have used the High School Football field, when the baseball diamond was used for practice. We don't have a Dog-Bark-Park,here, but the ones I've seen in Flagstaff are really nice. Others have joined us at the park from time to time and have really enjoyed the fellowship for man & furbabies. If you take your dog to a Bark Park-make sure it has had it's shots & healthy. Most BParks have 2 sections, one for larger dogs & one for smaller/older dogs. SOCIALIZING YOUR DOGS IMPORTANT. If you are able to take your dog out into public, it makes life much better for both you and the dog...It's amazing who you meet at a park with your dog! In Flagstaff, one of their 2 Bark Parks, is back to back with a huge apartment complex. I bet that BPark is a life saver for the dog owners that live there! At the one where I received Greta(from the Rescue-transport person)they even have a Agility Course set up. VERY COOL! They has a concrete slab marked for Obedience Patterns. I think a lot of behavioral problems exist because the dogs are bored & unhappy(not all)Exercize in humans, it has been proved that exercize helps depression. I believe through observation, it does in dogs too! BTW- Bark Master Park in Flagstaff was a wonderful place to introduce the Girls, there were no Territorial problems there(nor since). After we saw that they were running & playing we, took them to Petsmart-lots of dogs there! Then we started on a long ride home(they slept all the way home) They have gotten along together wonderfully ever since!

Bodie is so good for Chloe She really enjoys her company. Trixie is a little older and not so into play as much as Chloe and Bodie she'll get out there some to play but mostly is the corrector or parent of the group.
We are supposed to get a dog park but haven't yet. right now where I am there is no open spaces of any kind that could be safe for her to run free. I always thought I had a "large yard" until I met Bodie. when I take her out back I don't leash her so she can run a little bit but I follow and try and focus just on her now. seing as she is determind to climb that fence. We may have to go for a privacy fence if we stay in this house.

Thank God our yard is fenced. I know Tobi would wonder off if it weren't. Bodie sounds like she's into mischief. I'm glad you're working on a solution to that.

I remember when Tiny ran off a whole in the fencelink in Maria's yard and got hit by a car Frown These fur-kids just do not know any better and it's up to us to keep them safe.
