Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Rat Lover....I originally had copa and her sibling...I was told they were both female, one turned out to be male so he went back to the pet store. I tried to get another female for a while and am on a wait list
my cage is not big enough for two adult rats and with my upcoming wedding i can't afford to shell out big $$ for a larger cage right now. Copa seems fine..she is friendly and healthy and I am doing the best I can do for her right now...

You really need to get her a friend. She may seem happy but most likely she's bored and lonely. Rats are VERY social. You will find that said on almost any rat site you look at. Rats with friends live longer, are healthier, have better attitudes etc. Please find her a friend, for her sake. I amnot trying to be rude, but having owned rats for 17 plus years, I know how social they are and how much they crave the companionship of another rat.

It sounds odd that you cannot find another female in the petshop. When was the last time you looked? I saw the first pics you had of the rats, and at that age sex can be determined very easily. Perhaps when you do get another rat, you can browse sites online so that you make sure the girl is indeed a girl.

As far as caging is concerned, cages are not that much. $100 for a good one. If you are not willing to pay for another cage perhaps a rat is not the right pet for you. Medical bills for a rat can be horrendous! Last month I spent over 300 dollars on vet bills. Rats are prone to so many illnesses, and since most vets consider rats exotics they charge more for an exam fee. I would suggest getting an envelope and each time you get paid put away five dollars for medical costs. They can be very expensive, rats can.

Rat Lover, I've owned rodents several times. Copa is okay!
