Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

The little 6-8 month old GSD mix pup that we tried to save from the shelter came down with parvo while being fostered at a friend's home and had to be put down on Wednesday. It was a very sad day. The best we can say is that he was loved for the last 10 days of his life.

Now the work begins with everyone who had contact with him. Foster mom has to bleach her yard and parvocide her entire house and watch the 2 dogs she has at home. The girl fostering Carmen (who we also rescued) has to watch the 4 dogs at her house and at least spray everything down with Lysol and I have to Lysol the seats and carpet in my van and bleach the hard parts and then parvocide it when I get the stuff. And we have to watch our 11 dogs.

It's been a rather crappy last 3 days. I got attached even though I really didn't have a lot of contact with him. I feel guilty for giving the little guy to the foster mom, even though I didn't know and I feel badly that his little life had to end so soon. I just know he's at the Bridge waiting for all of us and playing with all his new friends and is not in pain or suffering anymore.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Wow!! That is really sad Frown but there was no way you could have known. Mugsy, can you educate us a little bit on exactly what parvo is and the symptoms to watch out for? I'll pray all the remaining dogs, including your 11, are okay. That is really sad.

CryingI WILL ALSO PRAY FOR YOUR DOGS AND THE OTHER LADIES' DOGS as well! PARVO & CORONA VIRUS are terrible and hard to get out of every thing(dirt in yards, every thing that came in contact with that pup,) has to be dealt with! if the name CORONA VIRUS SOUNDS FAMILAR, there are various forms(one type is responsible for SARS) both can be prevented by innoculations, but there are 2-3 wk windows after the shots, that the dogs/pups can still contact the diseases. FOR PUPS & UNHEALTY adult dogs it's usually fatal(sometimes not if caught right away & given IV.) HEALTHY DOGS- THEY WILL GET SICK, BUT CAN FULLY RECOVER from Parvo. Very contagious though, and adult dogs who appear to be healthy can carry & infect others!Series is usually included in puppy shots, then yearly booster after that. If you want me to, I can get more info & post it if you want BARBI! Parvo is one reason that I never had contact with other dogs/pups until HANNAH OR MY OTHER DOGS HAVE HAD THEIR PUPPY SHOTS & THAT is another reason I waited to go to PETSMART W/HANNAH UNTIL SHE HAD ALL OF HER SHOTS! AND when I go to the vets Hannah was in my Hubby's arms all the time. Parvo & some other bugs out there can be carried on shoes, clothing hands etc! AND VET'S OFFICES HAVE SICK ANIMALS COME THRU THEM!

Frown I'm so sorry about Raven, and there was nothing you could have done Mugsy, you didn't know, I had a pup that died of Parvo, and it is horrible. I'm not going into the details, but everything Rosemary said was right. and it is very contagious.

I made a thread in the health section about parvo. I do google searches to find the sites.

It's not easy to think about him suffering. That's the worst thing about it.
