Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Monique, I invite you and other Weimeraner owners to post about your pet's breed here with regards to personality, temperament, behavior, etc., just anything that would help other persons in deciding to select this breed. Feel free to include photographs Smile

Hmm where to start Smile

Weimaraners are also known as "The Gray Ghost"

Weimaraners were first bred in Germany and were used as a gundog to flush out wild bears and wolves.
Weimaraners were created from the French St. Hubert Hound and the Bloodhound (see his ears).

Gus is highly intelligent, obedient (when he wants to be) and very friendly. We did get Gus to be a guard dog and my partner now laughes at me saying "who would be scared of him" I don't know but I would be pretty scared if any dog weighing 34 kgs was running towards me barking.

Gus is awesome with children and other dogs. I love to watch him with kids because he almost tip toes around them, making sure he doesn't knock them over.
When we had a puppy over visiting, Gus would lift his legs right up to his body and would look down to make sure he wasn't going to stand on him. It was so cute and I was so proud Smile

Gus has loads and loads of energy so he needs regular exercise. If he has lots of built up energy he throws a bit of a paddy. He will jump up on me and get under my feet until I take him either for a walk or to the park.

The park is his favourite place as Gus just loves to fetch. Gus will fetch a ball until the cows come home. One day we went to the beach for a swim and a BBQ. I had been playing with him for over an hour and when I sat down to eat my dinner I noticed that when the tide went out there were oysters everywhere. I couldn't beleive it, I looked at poor Gus's feet and they were bleeding.
He loves to play fetch so much he didn't even care that he hurt himself in the process Frown

Gus is very dependant on human companionship and he is not the type of breed that can be left at home in a kennel. He is incredibly loyal and will even sit outside the bathroom waiting for me. I even laugh and pretend he can tell the time as he's always at the door waiting for me to get home after work.

Gus is my best friend Smile

Dear Monique,
I think Weirmariners are soooo gorgeous and beautiful! They would be my choice for a bigger dog. Met a breeder at the vet one day, but he told me they have a distinct odor that may be unpleasant. Have you noticed this?
He said it is nature for their hunting use.
Gus is so handsome!

I have never heard of this Dunno which is quite weird as I have read alot of information about Weims.
Infact I would have to say that he smells great! Lots of people say that he doesn't smell like a dog and I only bath him about once every two months depending on what he's been up to.

I would have to disagree with this breeder because as I said above he smells great Big Grin

My Weim Colby doesn't have a smell but she sure has a personality.

If you want a dog with character, get a weim, they are so amazing. Colby just loves to sit out back in out lawn chairs and watch the birds. They are just amazing!!!

Hello,

I have taken a few pictures but haven't downloaded them yet.
Colby is getting so big, she's 38 pounds now and just getting over a bladder infection.
She passed level 1 and 2 in school with flying colours, level 3 starts at the end of October. You should see her jump through hoops. I'll try to get my boyfriend to download some pics today.

How's Gus? Do you dress him up for Halloween?

Here are some new Colby pictures:
Here is the typical "It wasn't me look".

Here she is with my niece...

She loves to sleep in chairs but can't quite get comfy in this one...

And this last one is her first time sleeping in front of a fire, the snap of the wood scared her....

I'll have more soon.

She's beautiful, and Gus sends her a big KissSmile

Gus is well but I haven't taken any new photo's for a while Frown It's just about summer here so we're looking forward to lots and lots of trips to the beach.

We don't celebrate Halloween in New Zealand Frown
I'm not too sure why we don't but it sure would be fun to dress him up - well for me anyway Big Grin

They must because she will not sleep on the floor. She will wedge her way into any small spot on the couch or bed.

They are so funny. Gus is so beautiful.

In the picture of Colby"It wasn't me LOOK" some must have planted all that"evidence" around her cuz she LOOKS too innocent for it to have been her, I know cuz someone "PLANTS EVIDENCE" AROUND OUR WEIMER PUP TOO!!! ISN'T AMAZING how fast they grow, about the time I find the COLOR harness for her, she's into a bigger size! I'll never be lone.ly around the house with hubby at work and my son in another state now. HANNAH has to be with or on me all the time and she won't be ignored either, she presses her nose on mine looks in my eyes as if to say "SEE ME NOW"? they are like a ghost(their nickname is the grey ghost) they are very 'STEALTHY' THEY MOVE SO QUIETLY THAT WHEN YOU LOOK WHERE THEY LAST WERE THEY'RE NOT THERE ANYMORE, but have moved right in front of you. took me a while to get used to it. BUT NOW I wouldn't have her anyother way, very alert and smart dogs.
