Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Long-Hair Chihuahua owners, please provide your feedback with regards to this adorable breed (such as temperament, size, personality, habits, etc.), and please provide (if available) a picture of your Long-Hair Chihuahua for others to see.

Since I own Tobi, I'll start it out:

Tobi is almost 5 years old and weighs approx. 4 1/2 pounds. Temperament-wise he is very friendly, yet nervous around adults he has not met. Children can come to our house and carry Tobi and play with him as though he is a stuffed animal, and Tobi will have this look on his face like he's in la-la-land with their attention. He just loves children.

Tobi enjoys being groomed, with the exception of getting his nails trimmed. He's very easy to handle -- if I lie him on his back, he will just stay there peacefully and look at you.

Tobi is fearless when it comes to larger dogs provoking him. He gets along well with all the breeds he has come in contact with, but when provoked (even if the dog is 6 times his size), he does not back down nor is he intimidated -- he can pull his weight in character.

Long-Hair Chihuahuas require a lot of attention and they need to feel part of the pack. They are low maintenance with regards to grooming and eating expenses. Trainability-wise, I do not feel this breed is easy to train. I adore my little one. Smile

Hi Barbi,
I know I'm kinda slow to post but here goes:
I have two Long-Haired Chihuahuas.
Bailey is almost 2 yrs old and weighs between 5.1-5.5lbs. he has a beautiful coat, we call him our "beach blonde bailey". He is fearful of most other dogs in that he will become very defensive and protective. However, he LOVES people and getting belly rubs and cheese will definitley earn your love from him. once bailey likes someone, they can hardly get rid of him Smile He is my true "Velcro" baby and follows me around everytime I move. He is happy to go anywhere with me, and loves giving kisses.
Chloe is our 8.5 month old LC chi girl. She is girlie girl princess here in this household, and reigns wherever she goes. She is around 4.5lbs now, but very petite and lithe, yet she is the "boss of the dog park" and quite the sharmer when there is food invloved! Chloe is a little priss, that loves to sunbathe, and cross her front paws as if she is alwasy posing. She is a feisty red-head, with cute white markings. Her hair is starting to grow in more now. She is "Miss Independent" but will always come up to mommy or daddy at random to give many many kisses and rub herself against your neck.
We love our LC chis sooo much. Though their daddy says no more chis, you never know when another one will capture your heart. They have so much love to give.

I'm bumping this up so Angi can see it. Angi, you were mentioning about the different sizes in Chihuahua and how big yours is. Look at this photograph:

Buffy is my daughter's Long Hair Chi, she weighs 3 pounds 2 ounces and will turn 3 yrs old in February. Her sister, Baby, is triple her size and weighed almost 7 pounds. The parents were both tiny and pure-breed long hair chis and look how large she turned out. i think they come in all sizes and colors Smile

hahahahahaha That picture is totally cracking me up over here!!!!! THATS HILLIARIOUS!!!!!!!! But see now, my Toby is nearly twice Baby's size! He's a whopping 12lbs!!!! I would kill for a picture of all three of them together! lol

Anyways.....Toby's bio.....

Toby turned 1 year old on October 20, 2003. He is a spunky full of energy tan/cream long haired chihuahua. He's not really fluffy like some of the Chi's on here. But his hair is long. it just lays more flat. As I said, he weighs 12lbs. When we got him, at 4 months old, he weighed 7lbs. And the vet said "he better stop growing!" Then when he saw him again at 9 months, he weighed 11lbs and the vet responded "I think he's a mix......mixed with a saint bernard! This is the BIGGEST chihuahua i have ever seen in my career!" lol
Toby LOVES to run and play. He is very active. He would play till he would pass out if we didnt make him rest! He loves running in our back yard with my daughter. When she climbs up the ladder of the slide....toby races her to the top by running up the slide part! *giggle* His favorate place to rest is on the back of the couch in the window. My husband teases him that he's acting like a cat! But that window faces the street, so he gets to see lots of activity. My uncle swears Toby can be a hunting dog. He chases after every animal that comes in our yard, and often catches some! To date he has caught a squirel, 2 chipmunks, 3 rabbits, 1 bird, and came a hair close to catching a big fat groundhog!
He sleeps right next to me at night. I tease my husband by saying "Toby and I are spooning...you could learn a few things from him!" lol
Toby LOVES to give kisses. Its funny because when we got him he never wanted to kiss us. We didnt know if he just didnt know how....or if maybe he was emotionally hurt. It took him a month or two to learn how to kiss. But once he started....he doesnt stop. If you leave your face unguarded for a SECOND he will leap up and give you a kiss!
Speaking of leaping, my dog is a GREAT jumper! He can jump on beds and tables without a problem. If you are coming home you'll see him jumping in the window trying to see!
It was mentioned that chi's are small eaters.....NOT MY GUY!!!! He eats like a regular dog! I was told chi's were light eaters as well. But he has a big bowl, and he is constantly asking for more food. But he's not chunky. You can see from his picture he's slim. He's very active so I think that might have to do with it.
hmmm? What else should I mention?
We've never had him groomed. He sheds. Am I suppost to get his hair cut?? I cut his nails myself. its cheaper that way. He's usually good about it. Sometimes when he wants to go play he wont hold still. He LOVES his bath! He almost always takes a bath with my daughter. When she gets in he just jumps right in! lol
He LOVES his toys! His favorites are squeeky toys, or toys that make noise. He had a cow stuffy that when you squeezed it, it moo'ed. Oh he LOVED that cow!!! It was actually a present my husband gave me. But Toby claimed it for his own. Which upset my husband a little because the thing was a little on the pricey side! lol But toby would get a total KICK out of that sucker mooing. He loved it to pieces. But just last week it lost all its stuffing and the little voice box fell out. I think its somewhere in the back yard. Frown Im searching for a new cow to replace that one.

well i think I wrote a novel! lol I'll post my picture now!

God Bless,
Angi
