Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Hi Rachel, I'm Barbi. smile Welcome to CFP! smile Did you know Siberian Huskies are one of my favorite breeds? They've always been since I was little. I'm fascinated by their eyes and their wolf-like expression. When my son was born, his eyes were sooooooooooooo blue that all I could think of in describing them was "he's got eyes just like a Siberian Husky!" - people would laugh. I have never owned a Husky though -- what are they like, temperament wise? From an owner's point-of-view:

1) Are they very active?
2) Do they require a lot of exercise?
3) Are they the type of dog an apartment-owner could have or do they really need a large backyard?
4) Do they bark a lot?
5) Do they make a good watch dog or would they probably kiss a burglar?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm sure our readers want to know. Also, do you have a picture? I would love to see it.

Be sure to stop by the introduction thread under "GENERAL" and introduce yourself to the other members of the forum. smile

Hi All. I'm Anna, no, not Rachel's Siberian Husky! I do own a husky though, her name is Roxey and she is a wonderful dog, though at times a real pain (she loves to dig and tear up our new rose bushes-we had to plant them in our front yard so she couldn't get to them!).
I never thought I'd get a dog with so much energy! She could go all the time.
I can answer the questions Barbi had posted, so people will know a little about this breed.
1)Yes, they are very active and need to get lots of excercise, because when they are bored, they get destructive and try to run.
2)I guess they could live in an apt., but I'd say they would have to get out and do some running (maybe a couple of miles, at least 2x's a day). But a BIG back yard is great, mine runs in the yard all the time!
3)Do they bark? Well, mine don't she "howls"! And she usually only does this when she is playing.
4)Watchdog, no way! Only if you want your intruder licked to death!

Huskies are alot of work, but well worth it if you have the time to put into them. I would also suggest taking them to obedience school, they will love it and you will love them for learning it!
Here is a pic of my Roxey girl:

Awwww..she's so beautiful! Just look at those eyes. I also love her fur coloring. Anna, do they really howl? A lot? Can they be trained not to?

Do Huskies need to live in cold weather? I would assume they do cuz of their fur. Miami is VERY HOT during the summer so it's probably not a good idea to own one here. What do you think?

You should submit her picture for featuring. She's very beautiful!

Thank you very much! I think she's beautiful too!
I don't know if you can teach them not to howl or not, I love when she does it, so I would never make her stop. She usually only does it when she plays thought.
They don't have to live in cold weather. Just as long as they can come in the a/c when it's really hot outside. Last week it was in the 90's and all 3 of our dogs stayed in almost ALL the time, only going out for maybe a 1/2 hour at a time until evening and the sun went down!
Maybe I will submit her picture, thanks!
Anna smile
Here, just thought I'd show you another picture of her

I LOVE siberian huskies too! Yes they looove to howl! Actually my Nebo is pretty quiet during the day, he doesn't really bark "at" stuff. Like the dog behind us barks at everything she sees...like kids, cars, etc. Nebo normally barks/howls only when he's mad. He also howls when we howl with him, it's so cute!

They really need a place to run, run, RUN! Sometimes Nebo will start to get pretty restless in the house, and that's when I know it's time to let him in the backyard to RUN!

I think a husky could live in any climate as long as it was provided with a place to cool down. Although I think it's an added bonus for them to have snow sometimes! big grin

Yay! I love seeing pics of GORGEOUS Roxey!!!! smile Here's a pic of my Nebo (howling!)

Rachel is also my friend, although I see she posted this a loooong time ago.......here's a pic of her husky, Anna! smile

lol.. ever since I joined this forum I thought it would help so much to hear about all the different qualities of different breeds- but ARRGGHH now I cannot decide because I love them all!! Nebo is a favorite of mine.. Matt and I want to eventually make it to Colorado where my father lives with my stepmom and Kelly, our family dog (a sheltie with a heart of gold). Anyhow, I think a husky would LOVE it there in Colorado, dont you guys? I wonder how little Bear would do, though. Lol.. we will have to stock up on sweaters.

Anna, Does your husky get along with small size breeds? Cats? I think if we raised him from a pup and he was adapted to having tiny Bear around and two kitties, they should all get along... right? confused

I have a friend who has a Husky and it got away last night. Would you believe it climbed a 6 ft. fence? They're doing everything they can to find him.
