Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

Geeze, how did I never see this post before? Sorry Maggie Red Face

Here's a little on the Rottweiler:
The Rottweiler has a massive, powerful body. Muscular and athletic, it has a broad head and rounded forehead. The muzzle is well-developed with a scissor bite. It's eyes are dark with an expression of goodwill and loyalty. The ears are triangular, carried forward, and it's nose is wide and black.
The lips are black and inside the mouth it is dark-colored. The tail is customarily docked.
Often born with rear dewclaws, these are usually removed when the tail is docked. The coat is short, hard and thick. It is black with brown markings on the cheeks and muzzle, paws and legs.

The Rottweiler is calm, trainable, courageous and devoted to their owner and family. They have a reliable temperament. Protective, he will defend their family fiercely.
These are strong fighters that seem immune to pain. Firm and careful training is essential for this breed. With proper handling can be loyal, loving and very rewarding companions. They require owners who can handle their massive size.
The Rottweiler is a natural guard dog with a mellow temperament, and are highly intelligent.
This breed needs alot of companionship and socialization to be truly happy.
They can be agressive with other dogs and should be kept on leashs in public places.
When brought up and trained, it will be a good playmate for children and accept cats and other household pets as long as the dog has had a positive experience with them.
Friends, family and relatives are enthusiastically welcomed. Strangers can get no further than the sidewalk.
Some health problems:
Prone to hop dysplasia. Tends to snore and overeat.

They will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They are relatively inactive indoors and a small yard will be sufficient, but they do need plenty of exercise. You can't give these dogs too much work or exercise, they thrive on it.

Their life expentancy is about 10-12 years.

They are easy to groom and an average shedder.

And now a little about Angus Big Grin

We got him when he was 7 weeks old from a backyard breeder (Of course we didn't know then what we know now).
7 wks old with his friend Sassy

We hadn't even had him a week and he got sick (I remember it like it was yesterday). He had parvo. Of course it was on a Saturday & all the vets were closed. But we found one about 1/2 hour from us who said bring him in now!
Of course the vet was wonderful and said it was early enough that he was going to be fineBig Grin
After that, he grew like a weed!
He destroyed sooo many things Roll Eyes (he ate the whole corner of our old house, busted the parklight on our new car with his head, ate part of the camcorder, dug sooo many holes in the yard, etc..... I could go on & on Eek )
Of course he grew out of all of that and became a beloved member of our family. Him & Keisha were the bestest of friends and hated to be apart. When she went to the vets to have surgery on her eyes, he cried so much we had to bring her home early Red Face

He's never in his 12 years tried to bite anyone, and has only growled at me 1 time & Mark one time.
He's grown into the most loving and loyal dog a person could want.

I totally understand why people are afraid of him, he's a big guy (he weighs 106 lbs) and looks pretty intimidating...I wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley Wink But under all that he's just a big mushy pushover!

I could go on forever about all the things he's done or how much we love him, but I'll stop now since I'm sure this post is waaaay too long!

Anna,
Angus is a cutie! I have to say that I grew up being quite fearful of large dogs, although I 'm not sure where it stemmed from. Since deciding to have a doggie of my own, i've really learned a lot about all sorts of dogs, and grown so fond of them. I have to say the "typical" guard dog breeds (rotties and pit bulls) still shake me a bit inside, I have met many who have proved the stereotypes wrong. In fact my old roomie's friend brought her HUGE rottie over one night, and she just layed with her big head in my lap forever, and was calm as could be. Very sweet with big sloppy kisses (well, that's something else I haven't grown accustomed to yet but...)
BTW, you chow chow and siberian husy make for a handsome pack Wave

Angus has always been one to put his head in your lap, expecially if he wants somethingWink
My beggar

I hope your experience (minus the slobbery kisses Razz) helped you get over your fear somewhat.
And I think my pack of 3 is handsome too, thank you!

Wave Anna, that was very informational, Angus is amazing, what a big boy he is, Huney and Roxey are stunning as well.I had a Rottweiler , about 20 years ago, I named him Panzer, but he died when he was just a little pup of that horrible disease Parvo, Panzer was given to me from a friend and shortly after he quit eating and drinking water, so I took him to the vet , they gave me medicine for him, but they told me it was probably too late, and it was, but I'll never forget him. Crying

PS Anna those outfits for your dogs are fantastic!!!! Yippee Yippee Yippee
