Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

I have been trying so hard to hold someone responsible for the mess my puppy is in. Finally last night this following story aired on 3 channels in Palm Beach County, Florida. I urge anyone who has a sick pup from the pet shop to check with your State Law, regarding pet lemon laws...In Florida, we have one year to detect any defects...Finally...justice was served here...This is the first person arrested for violation of this law..maybe this is the start of something...www.thewpbfchannel.com
you will see the story on this page...

Kareval, I wish the link were still active. Frown Unfortunately, I had to delete it from the forum because it stated:

So when are they going to go after the puppy mill breeders who are supplying the pet shops? They are the ones who are allowing the in breeding and continued breeding of lines with the defects. I guess it is a step in the right direction.

The Siamese breeder in Idaho that I got Crazy from won't sell a pet unless it has been spayed or neutered first. It costs them a lot of money, but they are very careful about keeping the lines clean and healthy. They are very meticulas about keeping track of bloodlines and making sure that there is no inbreeding. That is why I got Crazy at such a young age. Why can't the Dog and Cat Associations help to shut these mills down?

I hope to get reimbursed too, but if not, that's ok..it's not about the money any more. It's about all those poor animals that come from mills....and even tho they are the ones breeding bad blood lines, if pet shops were responsible, then they wouldn't buy from the mills, and consequently the mills would die out.

Has anyone been to the Break the Chain link on the rescue resources here? Also, www.hua.org has a stop puppy mill link where you can write your senators/Congressperson and let them know what you think, as well as a campaign to send letters to famous/influential people who can help shut these places down.

Ok not sure if im posting this right or not but i bought a puppy from a puppy store when i was 15 ( i didnt know about puppy mills at all) My little JD was so cute but as soon as he hit puberty he went from a nice little puppy to a mental case. He would bite for no reason or provocation, he harmed himself, i took him to a groomer once and she said never to bring him back. He was just a psycho dog. I had to put him down as i tried everything i could to help him but he had major problems. I know now that he was from a puppy mill/bad breeding and all. I will never ever buy from a store again and i encourage others to rescue or buy from a breeder. I myself have a rescued labx and a pure bred Chihuahua from a breeder and there is such a difference from them to my poor little JD.

This information is educational. I never gave pet shops a second thought until I started doing research on the internet. I feel bad for the animals that are behind those cages. If only they could tell us what they went through before getting there.

The last time I went to a pet shop was about 3 months ago with a neighbor and her granddaughter who wanted a beagle. I noticed the animals were not really well taken care off in the sense their nails were not trimmed and they did not smell too good. It is sad to see them like that and I just wish each and every single one of them would find a home.

My next cat will be from a shelter or from the street. I just like the thought that I'm rescuing a pet.

Gloria... I live in miami as well

As for the story... It is sad that animals are put into these positions(being sick as a result of not being properly cared for)
