Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

I don't actually like watching Confirmation Shows(I believe confirmation counts for soundness and to maintain standards(so a greyhound doesn't endup looking like a poodle!) But not for changes in "style" (-AND NOT For FAD APPEARANCE)and the POLITICS are stupid(some of the professional Handlers are so Cut throat that THEY NEED MUZZLES) and a good STRONG choke chain! I love obedience & agility trials! Yippee It's what the dog does that counts!

YippeeThey have Agility going on every week in PHX. I have a friend down there that goes & watches it(she's recoverying from Cancer and it's a great outing for her(she just watches) I'd love to live close enough to see it too. But, I'd rather not live any where near a BIG CITY! The Agility Outings aren't enough to make me move near Phx or Tucson.

I know they hold a few agility trials in Virgina, which is about 2 hours away from us....I wouldn't mind traveling to see them. Maybe once Ty is older we can go.....

WaveDo You know where Woodbridge, Va. is? While in the Army, I lived there and I & 2 others taught Obedience Classes there(in the mid-late 1970's(like the yr.you were born ) Roll Eyes(hehehe) During the early 70's they had Amish Buggies going up/down the roads are they still around there. Robert Mitchem lived out there too during that time. I missed a turn off & ended up in his driveway. Was going from DC to The Naval Academy.

Rosemary, when I was in my 20's, I lived in Virginia. First in Newport News, and then in a military Army base named Fort Eustis.

I love that state so much and hope someday to return and visit. I miss the Williamsburg Pottery, which was a place I used to buy so much from. I recall seeing Amish buggies near the Colonial Williamsburg area. They might still be around.

Chris, I love agility training and especially the shelties at it. Hiram and I got to see a special run at the last dog fair we attended.

Yvonne, there's plenty of "ground work" that you can do prior to the "year old" suggested age. See if there's a local group! Like"puppy classes" offered for both confirmation & obedience(puppy matches) If there's an obedience class in your area, that's a good point to start! Breed clubs could be helpful too. I would think as in any dog/pup competition- MATURITY(between the ears) is as important as physical maturity!

Smile I agree Rosemary, hes very smart, he is already potty trained and sits on command, I will have to wait a little while on classes , I just don't have the time right now. Smile he will be 4 months on Valentines Day.

SOME of the best obedience trial dogs,I've seen are Schnauzers(all sizes)4 mo is a good age to start(your "Legs"-Wins, count At & after 6 mo.) BUT Puppy Matches are a very valuable TOOL! Obedience is not a hard thing to teach, it's the consistency on the "HUMAN'S side" that is! I love watching min. schnausies work obedience as they are so "quick"and precise when responding to the command! I call it "SNAP"!
