Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

It's a week today that I made that horrible decision to send my precious baby to the bridge. Although I know it was the right thing to do, there's always the thought that maybe, I could have done something else to help him recover. Sometimes, I don't think that vets are all that knowledgeable, but what can we do. Spencer developed an abcess attributed to his canine teeth, which were the only teeth left since he had all the others pulled out when he was about 4 yrs old. It was suggested by the vet that he have the canine teeth removed, which was done. I was horribly worried about putting him under since I know that is hard on the kidneys. The vet went with the results of his past blood work which was done in October and it was determined that he was border-line then for problems. However, they went ahead and extracted the canine teeth and I'm almost sure that was the cause of his ultimate kidney failure. I wish I had told them to just treat the abcess with meds and leave the teeth alone. Maybe that would have given me more time with him. Nevertheless, what is done is done. I miss him with all my heart and sole. Not a morning or an evening goes by and everything in between that I don't see that precious face in my mind.
Alexa, I know what you're going through. My prayers are with you. We must think are babies are well and happy in a better place. That's all that can get us through the tremendous grief we feel.

Mary Gene, don't blame yourself. I did the same thing when my RB Keisha died. It's been 2 years & I've learned to live with it, but I haven't gotten over it. You don't want to feel like that. Like I posted in your other thread, remember that Spencer will be waiting for you at the bridge always.

Dear Mary, I'm so very sorry for your loss of Spencer, but please do not blame yourself. We also lost our beloved cat, Arthur, after having him in our family for 10 years. He too had kidney failure and that is a disease which is very painful to animals, especially cats. The decision you made was not only a loving one, but a kind one as well, as we don't want for our loving pets what we don't want for ourselves or other family members. Your letting go of Spencer allowed him to be free of pain and hurt and to be at peace. You were a wonderful mommy to Spencer and his memory will be in your heart forever. I hope you find comfort in these words from a Kahlil Gilbran poem:

"And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.

And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.

And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

I believe that somewhere in heaven, Spencer is dancing now.

Much love, Martha (Missy's mom) Frown

Yes I'm the one who joined your grief support group. I wish I had a pic I could send, however, I cannot do that at work and I don't have a home computer as of yet. I will be getting one ASAP. I have 3 other kitties and one on the way that I'd like to have people see. Thank you for being concerned and offering to post my baby's pic.
