Hi, we're so glad you're visiting.  Welcome to the CFP Pet Community.

The CFP Forum is officially "inactive" -- I am exhausted and just cannot keep up with it.  All our wonderful moderators and buddies who wholeheartedly participated with me in this forum also have busy lives and -- one could say -- we all got burned out talking about our fur-kids for years. It got to be pretty addicting, but life and reality has now taken over. I love you guys -- enjoy reading the posts OR if you want to register and say hello, please do not expect an immediate response or a lot of replies. God bless and please take care of your fur-kids.

I recieved this in an email, and it's VERY true. It's a reminder to us all, that puppy mills must be stopped.

I'm a little puppy, so cuddly, sweet and small
I live inside a cage, you see at a Pet Store in the mall.
I'm not an only puppy, my sisters are all here.
My brothers, too, except for Ralph who died coz he was scared.

It's lonely here at nighttime when all the lights go dark,
We tremble in our cages and we whimper and we bark.
But no one comes to hold us or pet our fears away.
We sit all night in terror til the store opens next day.

We don't remember mama, left so far behind.
she did the best she could for us til Man said "It is time."
He crammed us all in cages too small for us you see.
We rode for hours; we could not help but lay in poop and pee.

And now we sit in a Pet Store where kids come taunt and squeeze.
They do not hear our whimpers or understand our pleas.
We're miserable and it's scary here we all would rather die.
But since we don't we do our best to run away and hide.

I know you think my story too sad to leave me be.
You want to take me home with you, a happy little puppy.
But please, though it is fearful to live here against our will.
If you take me that leaves a spot another pup will fill.

You can stop our suffering but not by taking us home.
You must be strong and leave us here, unsold and all alone.
For if you do not take me, then another pup won't come.
And maybe he will not be shipped so far away from home.

Tho some of us may not survive the cycle 'ere it falls.
If we don't sell they will not need more puppies in these halls.
And if they need no puppies then the Man will not bring more.
Eventually it can all stop! You CAN close the door.

So when you see a puppy face so sad and sweet and small.
In a cage at a Pet Store at your neighborhood shopping mall.
The best thing you can do for him is leave him sitting there.
That is the best way you can tell all dogs how much you care.

Smile Julie I like the poem, but the pet store I got my Curtis from, has nothing to do with puppy mills, I have written documentation on that, or my husband would not have bought him, he knows how I feel about puppy mills. Smile

CryingI STILL CAN SEE THE LITTLE SKINNY WEIMER FEMALE, IN THAT PLASTIC CUBE, shoved in there with a great dane pup(both were small for their ages but FAR TOO BIG for the cube they were in, I too thought, about rescuing the lil girl, but it's true, they would just put another one in.$1400.00(ANIMAL KINGDOM IN FLAGSTAFF AZ)I remember walking up to the guy and saying, HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT? before he did answer I said 'if YOU CAN, YOU HAVE NO CONSCIENCE OR SOUL.' he started to say something back to me as I turned to walk out the store, My husband walked up to him and said, "mister, I wouldn't say anything to her, she'll stand outside your store door and convince folks not to come in here, and I'll have to go get her a motel room, cuz she'll be back by the door tomorrow too, and YOU KNOW SHE"S Right!< THEN Hubby added as he exited the store, Surely you could find A REAL JOB! HUBBY was silent until we got to Petsmart, then He told me what happened when I had walked out of the Animal Kingdom store. I couldn't have been prouder, you see he NORMALLY wouldn't have said anything, BUT he said, "ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS, THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN OUR PRECIOUS HANNAH, SITTING IN THAT CUBE!"

thank you for the poem, I haven't thought about that lil girl since last friday, when we were in officemax, right into the mall, I said to hubby, 'DO YOU THINK SHE'S STILL THERE?' HE SAID 'NO, IT'S BEEN 3 MO.now.' WE were in the Animal Kingdom's Mall parking lot-the same lot as Office max. Hannah was in the truck with us, and as usual washing my face, with a big sloppy kiss! as HUBBY HEADED off to PETSMART, hubby had not been in there with Hannah & I a couple of mo. ago, for Hannah's first trip to Petsmart. I HUNG BACK A LITTLE BIT AND WATCHED AS HANNAH RECOGNIZED THE HEAVENLY SCENTS! As they flew into the doors, 2 of the Front register clerks, recognized Hannah! and called out Her name! AS I caught up to them, hubby flashed me a big smile, and said "she must have made a BIG IMPRESSION ON THESE FOLKS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE HERE!" THEY REMEMBERED HER NAME! Yes, she had she was only 3 mo. old then & had picked out a little stuffed dog, carried it all through the store(20-25 MIN.)AND still had it when I checked out. The clerk, had to get another to scan cuz HANNAH KEPT IT just out of the clerk's grasp! the clerk DID RECOGNIZE HER! HANNAH LUVS PETSMART! THIS time Hubby let her pick out a "nylon/vinyl type brown squeeky 'branch' with a ladybug & spider on it! Just one toy,and again she carried it all the time, never putting it down, when we got up to the check out she, gave it to the girl and waited until the girl gave it back! The girl called every one over to see how Hannah would do it over and over again! what a ham! MISS HANNIE FANNIE, SHOWING OFF! The girl gave her a NYLABONE, "just cuz" she said! I'M WONDERING IF HANNAH WOULDN'T BE A GOOD "HOSPITAL VISITING DOG", with a bit more obedience training and about 4 mo months of maturity. SHE LOVES TO BE LOVED.

You know, I HATE when I go into some pet stores around here, (one in particular) and see those little puppies in those little tiny cages....the look in their eyes just breaks my heart. How can people that sell those puppies or run those puppy mills have any kind of heart??? All they see is dollar signs. Mad

I know Julie, I didn't think that at all, I love the poem, it is so true, and it ,makes me so mad, how people can be so heartless, I went in with my hubby and daughter to get two male finches, My daughter says mom come look at these puppies, I knew I shouldn't have went back there, I know the people that run this pet store they don't have many doggies for sell its mostly a bird and fish store, the owners know the breeders and are very reputable, anyway I walked back there and it was like tunnel vision , I could not see any of these puppies but Curtis, he was crying and carrying on when he saw me, he didn't do that to my daughter, just me, I got to hold him and then my hubby told me to go ahead out to the car, so me and my daughter was sitting there in the car, Out comes my hubby, I didn't notice at first cause he hid Curtis under his coat, and my hubby got in the car, I saw a little ear poke out, I just lost it, there was my sweet little Schnauzer!! My hubby said he thinks Curtis was meant to be mine the way it happened in the store, I'm sooo happy, he slept all night last night in his own bed!! Big Grin

Our pet shop says they get their puppies from responsible breeders...That is a big lie.....A responsible breeder would not let their puppies be stuck in tiny cages at a pet shop...A responsible breeder wants to know where the puppies go...I HATE THEM....I stuck some nasty posters on their window....About cute puppies but then shows the mother still in a puppy mill......I will protest and protest untill that petstore is gone......I know you cant save em all, but at least a few......Rosie comes from a puppymill, and I just love her so much, I see all her deformaties from that cage, and I hate it... Mad

Yvonne, it really sound like it was meant to be!!!!

Kathy, i've been working on getting the place close to us shut down for selling puppies. Like you said, if only the people that buy the puppies could see how the mother's are treated. It just breaks my heart........ Yme

Yvonne, I think Curtis was meant to be yours too! (love that name! Big Grin) I'm glad he did not come from a puppy mill. Over here, in all the pet stores I've seen that sell dogs and cats, I would bet ALL of them came from puppy mills. Mad And, it jst ticks me off when I see "Shetland Sheepdog, on sale!! $900.00!" Mad and it's crammed in such a tiny cage...

When will people learn? Dunno Yme
